The following are the roles of parents in the child's education:

Be a role model for learning. In the early years, parents are their children’s first teachers — exploring nature, reading together, cooking together, and counting together. When a young child begins formal school, the parent’s job is to show him how school can extend the learning you began together at home, and how exciting and meaningful this learning can be. As pre-schoolers grow into school age kids, parents become their children’s learning coaches. Through guidance and reminders, parents help their kids organize their time and support their desires to learn new things in and out of school.

Parents can support their child's learning methods and hobbies. Many children use a combination of modalities to study and learn. Some learn visually through making and seeing pictures, others through tactile experiences, like building block towers and working with clay. Still others are auditory learners who pay most attention to what they hear. The hobbies, Parents can support anything that interests them such as sports, art, dancing, singing, and more, while guiding him in the process of development without limiting the positive activities he/she likes.

As child problem solvers, whether in friendships, teachers, social interactions and the society, which may hurt the child mentally and physically. With the parent's experience in social life can solve the child's problem through eye to eye conversation and some hugs of affection.

As a provider of the material needs of their children. Ranging from school fees, school equipment, pocket money, donations, food supplies and others. However, parents should also be selective in giving something to the child to avoid the spoiled personality of the child.

The importance of parent's role to the education of children is important because education is the main thing that every living individual must have to survive against the times. Parental involvement in children's education has proven to have many positive effects on children. Many who achieve success after they reach adulthood. The active role of parents certainly needs to be supported by good communication between parents and the school.

As Muller (2009) states: 'the relationship between family and educator and community has given a new definition to the limits and functions of education. The relationship increases the capacity of parents and communities; creating conditions in which children can learn more effectively. '

Research shows that parental involvement in many ways has a positive impact on some indicators of child achievement, such as:

  • Higher score

  • Successful enrollment to a more advanced and higher level

  • Lower drop-out rate

  • Higher graduation rate

  • The possibility of obtaining tertiary education such as private lessons

Parental involvement is associated with various child development indicators that include:

  • Better social skills

  • Strong belief in the importance of education

Therefore, parents should pay more attention to their children, see the potential and talents of their children, provide facilities and infrastructure to support their learning process in school and always motivate children to keep the spirit in learning. Parents are also expected to do all of it with a sincere intention to create a generation that has good morale, high insight and unyielding spirit.
